K15 – Concepts in New Croatian Art wishes to provide a different methodological approach to Croatian contemporary art, the art created in the last fifteen or so years. The reasons for the book having acquired precisely this form and content should be sought, on the one hand, in the obvious need to bring into a single place some very serious, fairly recent art production, plus the theoretical and critical reflexion that exists about it, while on the other hand the heterogeneity of style, media and production required a presentation form capable of fostering this diversity, not reducing it all to some imaginary common discursive denominator. For this reason each one of the fifteen writers included has accepted the task of devising and critically elaborating a single concept that has some relevance to the current state of the visual arts in this country, whether it is a matter of a) a trend that pulls the work of several artists together; b) a phenomenon that contextualises the country within the wider European setting; c) new and interesting paradigms that are as yet only adumbrated but promise to be important in the future, or d) new models of reading known authors who would appear to have been exhaustively scrutinised already. Unique in the field of art theory and criticism, K15 deals with most recent trends and tendencies in Croatian conremporary art in dynamic and unorthodox way. Students and experts alike will find this highly original, richly illustrated and well written book very helpful in outlining key concepts of the theoretical debate and art practice in Croatia.
